A studio service
Cookbooks children can follow.
A child following a recipe needs to see each step, not read a paragraph. We illustrate children's cookbooks with step-by-step pictures, ingredient spreads and a guide character who shows the way.

N° 01Step-by-step art
Step-by-step art
Each recipe broken into small illustrated steps, with the safety moments (knives, heat) shown clearly for a grown-up to help.
N° 02Ingredient spreads
Ingredient spreads
Everything needed for a recipe drawn on one spread, so children can gather it before starting.
N° 03Halal-friendly
Halal-friendly
We illustrate halal recipes only: no pork and no alcohol in any recipe or scene.
N° 04How it is made
How a book like this comes together.
01
One layout for every recipe
Title, ingredients, tools, steps and finished dish sit in the same places in every recipe. The child knows where to look each time.
02
One action per step
Each step picture shows a single action. A long recipe gets more small pictures, not longer captions.
03
Easy recipes first
Recipes that need no heat or knives open the book, and harder ones come later.
04
Small symbols, used again and again
A symbol for asking a grown-up, one for the oven and one for timing are designed once and repeated through the book.
05
The finished dish
Each recipe ends with a painted picture of the finished dish. It is drawn from your photo of the tested recipe when you have one.
N° 05What goes wrong
Common mistakes, and how to avoid them.
01
Picture and method disagree
The text says two eggs and the picture shows three. We draw from your ingredient list and check the counts on the final art.
02
Steps too small to follow from the counter
A cookbook is read at arm's length with busy fingers. Step pictures and step numbers are sized for that distance.
03
Steps lost in the fold
A cookbook has to lie open. Steps and ingredient lists are kept away from the centre fold.
04
More steps than the package covers
Step-by-step art uses illustrations quickly. The recipes and their steps are counted against the package before work starts.
N° 06Your brief
What to send us to get started.
You do not need all of it. Send what you have and we will ask in writing for anything missing.
• Your tested recipes, with final ingredient lists and method
• A photo of each finished dish, if you have one
• The steps where a grown-up must help
• The measurements to show: metric, cups or both
• An idea for the guide character, or a note asking us to design one
• Trim size and the binding your printer offers

N° 09Questions
The answers we give most often.
- Do you write the recipes?
- No. You supply tested recipes; we illustrate them.
- Can you photograph the food?
- No. The books are illustrated, not photographed.
- How many recipes fit a package?
- It depends on how many steps each recipe needs. The Big Book package covers up to 30 illustrations, and how recipes and steps are counted is agreed in the quote before we start.
- Can each recipe show both cups and grams?
- Yes. Measurements are set as text and you supply both sets. We do not convert or test them.
- Can you add allergy notes?
- Yes, as text or small symbols using the wording you supply. We do not give dietary advice.
